Leeds United Playing Squad for the relegation 2003-04 Season

Squad Number: 9

A bargain signing from Celtic for £6 million, Mark has just completed 50 goals for Leeds United.
Despite a well-publicised bust-up the Peter Reid, Mark seems to have settled down and appears to be enjoying his football again. Mark was unsettled by all the big name departures, including international team-mate, "Dirty Harry" Kewell during the 2002-03 season and this summer. However, he has been impressed by Peter Reid's close season signings, particularly Jermaine Pennant and this appears to have giving Mark some hope of the team doing something during the 2003-04 season.
He finished the 2002-03 season with an incredible scoring run, and he has begun the 2003-04 season in the same vein with goals against Newcastle and Middlesborough in the first four games of the season. Of course there is more to his play than just goals, he is very good as a target man, holding up the ball and he has delighfully quick feet for a big man and can give defenders a hard time with the ball on the floor as well as in the air. Expect another 20 goals this season, and unlike Owen and Shearer, half of 'em won't be penalties! 3rd Sept, 2003
Updated: Summer 2004: One of the few Leeds players with real class, Mark ended his season and his time at Leeds in a disappointing fashion. Sent off at Bolton on his return after being sent off at Leicester. Neither sending-off was justifiable. But Mark has had a poor season off the field; his father was seriously ill, he had to travel the world to see him, the Socceroos banned him for missing the next game in Venezula! With countrymen like that who needs enemies! With a decent defence who knows what we would have achieved with a Smith, Viduka strike force. So long Mark, thanks for all the fish!
