Alan is a Scottish youth international goalkeeper who was signed on deadline day as cover for first choice keeper Casper Ankgeren. Martin had been expected to move to Glasgow Rangers over the summer under the freedom of contract rule.

Alan said on joining Leeds, "I'm on top of the world to be signing for a club like Leeds. The facilities here are top class and I'm looking forward to working with the manager and coaching staff and becoming a better player."

About the points penalty he added optimistically, "The 15 points doesn't mean anything, it's already down to minus six, and the players here have a good chance to make history."

Alan signed his professional contract with Motherwell on 23/12/2006 but made no first-team appearances.

Wolves left-back Jamie Clapham joined Leeds United on loan until 30 September 2007.

Jamie has played over 300 senior games for Tottenham Hotspur, Ipswich Town, Birmingham City and Wolves.

The loan was due to the prevaling shortage of defenders at the club which was exacerbated by the confirmation that Eddie Lewis had completed his late move to Derby County. Although Eddie usually played left midfield he also played let back for the USA international side and was a useful back-up for Leeds United in that position.

Jamie was clearly a direct replacement for the cover that Eddie provided.

Dennis Wise released the club's other left-back Stephen Crainey after a poor season during the releagtion from the Championship.

Clapham wore #24, which was Rui Marques' number last season (2006-07). Rui had been promoted to squad number 5.

Eventually Jamie's loan was extended until 21/11/2007. He made twelve starts and one sub appearance in League One and two sub appearances in cup games. Leeds United lost only one game in which he appeared and he was a key member of the side that equalled the club record of seven consecutive wins at the start of the season. He was therefore one of the players who helped make a mockery of the Football League's 15 point penalty - and Jamie will always have the thanks of Leeds United fans for that fact.

He returned to Wolves where he was eventually given a free transfer to fellow Championship side Leicester City on the January transfer deadline day, 31/1/2008. He made eleven league appearances for the Foxes but they were relegated to join Leeds in League One for the 2008-09 season. Jamie was released by Leicester on 1/6/2008.

Frazer was the long-term understudy Republic of Ireland, international Gary Kelly and Danny Mills. Now Gary Kelly has retired Frazer has a chance to make the right back berth his own. However, he has been suffering a long term injury. Fraser has successfully played right-midfield for Leeds United as well.

Despite being born in Rotherham, Frazer Richardson is a lifelong Leeds fan who has emerged through the Leeds United Academy ranks to become an established youth international. Like Leeds fans Aaron Lennon and James Milner Frazer could also be forced to leave Leeds and at the start of the League One 2007-08 season he has been linked with a move to Burnley FC.

The signing of Shaun Derry was a direct sign of the huge change that had come over the wreck that was Leeds United AFC. We attempted to sign him back in November 2004 but the Board that saved Leeds from administration struggled and ultimately failed to come up with the finance needed to complete the deal. Humiliation followed as the deal had already been made public and the player was already training with the Leeds squad!

Since those dark days Ken Bates has taken over and Shaun signed a two-and-a-half-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

Filipe Gui Paradela Maciel da Costa was signed from Larissa by Dennis Wise on transfer deadline day, 31 August 2007. Portugese winger Filipe joined Leeds United when they were unbeaten in Legue One but still on minus six points owing to the Football League punishing Leeds fans for the financial misdeeds of various directors over the past six years, by making the club start on minus fifteen points in their first season in League One. Happily for Filipe and Leeds fans and sadly for the Football League Chairman, the appropriately named Lord (God Almighty? - in his own eyes at least - Ed.) Mal-whine-y, his attempt to get United relegated straight to League Two seems to have hit the rocks after just three games.

Filipe is a lively, skilful, naturally left-footed midfielder with a hard shot who can play on both wings. Talented players often attract agricultural tackles for lesser-skilled players and Filipe has been known to retaliate - Filipe may have to look beyond Dennis Wise and Gus Poyet for lessons on keeping one's temper on the pitch!

Anyway, welcome to the fight Filipe! Thanks for joining Leeds United!

Filipe, obrigado por ficar um membro da nossa equipe, Leeds Unido!

Filipe started off in the Benfica under nines team, but here is Filipe's professional career to date:
Season  Team
2007/08 Leeds United
2006/07 Ionikos/Larissa (Greece)
2005/06 Ionikos (Greece)
2004/05 Reggiana/Ionikos
2003/04 Reggiana (Italy)
2002/03 Sp. Braga B (Portugal)
2001/02 Amora FC (Portugal)

See videos of his goals here

Update: Leeds United are still awaiting international clearance for him to play for Leeds as the Greeks are claiming he is still under contract. Leeds are assured this is not the case and that it is due to the way that Greek football contracts are drafted. Leeds have already stated that da Costas' signing is on the basis that it is a free transfer - so there is no way that they have been trapped into paying for the player.

Filipe made his debut in a closed door friendly against Chesterfield on Tuesday on 11/9/2007. He scored a "terrific" free- kick which bodes well for the his future at Elland Road. (We won 2-1 after Bayly scored the winner thre minutes from time).

Following a red card against Bury on his first-team debut Dennis Wise farmed him out to Falkirk but he failed to make an impact. He came back to Leeds but Gary McAllister didn't seem impressed by his attitude and eventually Filipe da Costa left Leeds United in May 2008.

Jonathon was originally signed on loan on the same day that we sold Matthew Spring to Watford at the start of the 2005-06 season. He started in the 2-0 League Cup victory over Oldham and his home debut was in the 3-3 draw with Brighton (10/9/05) in which he scored the sensational added-on-time equaliser. He played over 40 games during the season culminating in the disappointment of the play-off final in Cardiff. After which game he returned to Blackburn Rovers.

Nothing was heard of him on the transfer front until the deadline day, 31 August 2006 when Jonathon signed a three year permanent deal with Leeds United.

Position: Attacking Midfielder

International: Iceland full (7 caps at end of Jan 2005)

Born 27th October 1978 in Iceland he began as a trainee with KR Reykjavik. Signed on a free transfer from Lillestrom of Norway on 1st Jan 2005. He was brought to the attention of Blackwell by a Scandanavian Leeds fan! A regular scorer for Lillestrom he scored the headed winner against Burnley at Turf Moor on 5th Feb 2005 which was only his third game for Leeds and only his second as a starter! Frank Sinclair of Burnley was also sent off for kicking out at him following a midfield clash in the same game!

That turned out to be his only goal for Leeds in career that spanned just 25 games. Gylfi suffered a long-term injury during the 2006-07 season - the season that Leeds United were relegated from the Championship.

He was released on a free transfer, while still injured, on transfer deadline day for the 2007-08 season, Leeds United first season in League One, the third tier of English professional football.

Bradley left Northampton Town when he signed a three-and-a-half-year contract on 8 January 2008 to play for Dennis Wise.

Johnson made his first appearance for Leeds United on January 14, when he replaced David Prutton in their League One fixture against Crewe at the Alexandra Stadium.

He scored his first goal for Leeds United at Elland Road against AFC Bournemouth on March 8, when he scored the first goal in the 2–0 victory.

Although a central midfielder, Johnson has established himself on the left wing under Gary McAllister. Due to on-loan Alan Sheehan's red card he played at left back in the last game of the 2007-2008 season against Gillingham FC,scoring a long-range volley. He kept the left-back slot through the play-off semi-finals against Carlisle United, and in the Wembley play-off final against Doncaster Rovers even though Alan Sheehan was available for the final.

On-loan Alan Sheehan signed permanently for Leeds in July 2008 and so Bradley is expected to return to left wing duties next season (2008-09)

Eddie Lewis
signed for Leeds United from Preston NE on a free transfer as he was out of contract. In the previous 2004-05 season he had been influential in Preston North End's successful season which saw them reach the Coca-Cola Championship play-off Final, where they lost out to West Ham. Interestingly, he turned down a new contract with Preston because he felt Leeds United offered him a better chance of reaching the Premiership in 2005-06. He was almost right, Leeds reached the play-off final under Kevin Blackwell but Eddie lost out again, this time 3-0 to Watford.

Eddie Lewis was popular at Leeds adding a touch of class to the left of midfield where he had displaced the popular Danny Pugh in his first season. Despite his efforts Eddie was part of the squad that was relegated from the Football League Coca-Cola Championship to League One - the first time Leeds United have ever been relegated to the third tier of professional football in England.

Although Leeds United made a winning start to the 2007-08 League One campaign Eddie was always going to be in demand and this time it was Derby County and the irresistable lure of Premier League football that came calling.

"I wanted to keep Eddie but this is a wonderful opportunity for him," said the Leeds manager Dennis Wise after the move was announced.

"He phoned me up and I was never going to stand in his way and say 'sorry, you're not going'. I think he would have been annoyed with me if I'd have done that."

Dennis Wise has hinted that several players were allowed to leave in the summer (2007) because he did not think they were team players or had the stomach for the fight - but Eddie Lewis was clearly not one of those. Of the departing American international Wise said,

"He's been a good pro, he's done very well for us and I'm chuffed to bits he has got an opportunity like this".

Eddie Lewis also goes with the thanks and best wishes of all of us here at www.leedsutd365.co.uk

Peter signed for Leeds United from Stoke City on 10 Jan 2008. Dennis Wise played him in the next four games and then was gone. He appeared on the teamsheet only five more times under new manager Gary McAllister who obviously doesn't rate him as highly as the departed Wise.

It was a topsy-turvey season for Sweeney. He played six games for Stoke at the start of the 2007-06 season (Stoke went on to win promotion to the Premier League), he also played in League One on loan at Walsall and Yeovil Town. Indeed, he even played AGAINST Leeds for Walsall in a 1-1 draw at Walsall! Then he arrives at Leeds United on a permanent deal and thinks things are settled and then Dennis Wise disappears to Newcastle and the new manager doesn't seem to fancy him.

All in all perhaps a season to forget for Sweeney.

Tore-Andre Flo announced his retirement from the game due to a persistent foot injury, on 10 March 2008. He suffered a fractured foot on a scoring debut against WBA and never played again in the 2006-07 Championship season. Although he played for Leeds in League One he was not able to retain a starting spot and decided to retire as he faced a long commute and wanted to spend more time with his young family.

Flo, whose family are Leeds United fans, said on retiring, "I loved my time at Leeds and I just wish I could have been a lot more free of injury. I'd like to thank everyone in and around Leeds for their support. It was great to be a part of the club, and I'm very happy to have played for Leeds United."

He made just 5 league starts and 18 league sub appearances, scoring four goals in the process. He also made one substitute appearance in the FA Cup.
