Peter signed for Leeds United from Stoke City on 10 Jan 2008. Dennis Wise played him in the next four games and then was gone. He appeared on the teamsheet only five more times under new manager Gary McAllister who obviously doesn't rate him as highly as the departed Wise.
It was a topsy-turvey season for Sweeney. He played six games for Stoke at the start of the 2007-06 season (Stoke went on to win promotion to the Premier League), he also played in League One on loan at Walsall and Yeovil Town. Indeed, he even played AGAINST Leeds for Walsall in a 1-1 draw at Walsall! Then he arrives at Leeds United on a permanent deal and thinks things are settled and then Dennis Wise disappears to Newcastle and the new manager doesn't seem to fancy him.
All in all perhaps a season to forget for Sweeney.
