Curtis was signed by Dennis Wise from Wise's former club, Swindon town. Weston had followed Wise to Swindon from Millwall, so much was expected of the youngest ever FA Cup-finalist. However, he never really got going under Wise before the manager departed in January 2008.
Weston played no role under new Leeds Utd manager Gary McAllister and he was loaned out towards the the end of the 2007-08 season and was expected to be transferred during the summer.
This seemed to be confirmed by the squad number he has been given for 2008-09, number 40.
Start of August and Scottish Premier League team Hibs were reported to be give Curtis a trial. However, on 1 August 2008, it was announced that Leeds Utd have sent Curtis on loan to League Two side Gillingham FC for twenty eight days.
Curtis made his debut for Gillingham away at Bournemouth on 9 August 2008. He was substituted in the 69th minute when Gillingham were trailing to a Darren Anderton goal. Gillingham equalised in the 90th minute.
On 27 August 2008 it was announced that Curtis had signed a two-year deal with Gillingham that will keep him at the Priestfield Stadium until the end of the 2009-10 season.
