Becchio made his league debut against Scunthorpe United, as a sub, in the first game of the 2008-09 League One season.

Luciano scored his first goal in a Leeds United shirt from the penalty spot in a 3-2 defeat for the Leeds United reserves against their Huddersfield Town counterparts on 20 August 2008.

His first goal for the first team came in the first minute of the away fixture against Yeovil Town. The game ended in a disappointing 1-1 draw though.

How different it was just four days later when Becchio scored again, this time in the 4-0 demolition of Neil Warnock's Crystal Palace side in the 2nd round of the Caring Cup.
