Brighton had already hit the post before Paul Reid put them ahead after ten minutes at the Withdean Stadium.
Controversially, Eddie Lewis went down in the area and Robbie Blake scored from the penalty spot in the 38th minute. Earlier Blake had had a shot cleared off the line.
