As predicted (See Bakke Crocked Villain) injured Eirik Bakke has returned to Elland Road two weeks early from his successful loan spell at Aston Villa. Bakke sustained a hamstring injury in the 11th minute of Villa's game against West Ham on Saturday.
Despite Bakke figuring highly in David O'Leary's plans, O'Leary had to admit that extending the loan period to the end of the season was all he could offer. Leeds Utd were looking for a permanent deal for the injury-prone Norwegian, not least because he is still on monumental "Ridsdale wages". The chance of the injured Bakke moving elsewhere during the January transfer window is minimal given the size of his wages and the player's stated preference to rejoin his former manager at Villa.
