's Championship rivals Southampton FC
look set to lose the services of exceptionally talented 16-years-old striker, Theo Walcott
to Arsenal. Thankfully for Championship clubs, according to Uber Arsemeister Arsene Wenger, Walcott is set to sign for the Premiership club today, in what certainly will be a coup over Chelski Moneybags FC
Wenger was cautious, as always, when he spoke to the Arse's official website yesterday,
"We're very heavily in the race but nothing is done and, as long as nothing is signed, you cannot talk about it," said Arsene erm... talking about it! "However, we are hoping to get a decision in the next 24 hours."
Apparently Walcott is reported to have already said that he wants to join Arsenal if he leaves Championship-becalmed Southampton FC.
Young Theo has had an exceptional season already; he became Southampton's youngest player when he debuted against Glen Hoddle's Wolverhampton Wanderers on the opening day of the 2005-06 season. He has scored four goals in just thirteen Championship matches.
But three questions remain: firstly, how much will he cost - figures as high as £12 million have been suggested, secondly; will he play in the Arse reserves for the next few seasons or will he loaned back to Southampton and finally; will Arsenal loan him instead to a football club with a track record of improving Arsenal's youngsters e.g. Jermaine Pennant - yes, it's us! Leeds United! :-)
