Last week Michael Ricketts made his on-loan debut for Burnley, and he scored! Just as he did on his on-loan debut for Ridsdale's Cardiff City earlier in the season. He went on to net four more times for the Bluebirds and after Saturday's game against Ipswich Town he's on target to at least match his Cardiff period.
Ironically, whilst United's strikers were drawing a blank against manager-less, relegation-haunted Derby County, Michael Ricketts gave the Clarets the lead on 45 minutes. He broke into the left-hand side of the area and turned his body to hit a sweet right-foot strike across the face of the goalie and into the right-hand corner of the goal.
Ricketts was booked for his celebration in front of the home fans, though it looked fairly innocuous compared to the OTT Gary Neville's "Rip my still-beating heart from my chest and wave it at the Scousers"-type celebration.
Steve Cotterill was ultimately disappointed to lose the game 1-2 to a dubious penalty decision but said, "It was a great finish from Michael and we're pleased with his contribution." Meanwhile, Kevin Blackwell was last seen sitting in the changing room, nursing a bottle of Old Belcher's Firey Rum and quietly singing, "All we are saying is give us a goal!"
