With Reading and Sheffield United in strong positions at the top of the Championship and Watford having again taken over third spot after United's dire performance at Leicester City on Saturday, United are almost certainly facing the play-offs, at best, at the end of this season.
But hey, every cloud has a silver lining, at least the Whites faithful could look forward to a day out at the new Wembley Stadium for the play-off final? They could until this morning that is.
The Aussie builders, Multiplex made an announcement to the Australian Stock Exchange which basically said that because the FA cannot be sure Multiplex will had over Wembley when promised, they have decided to hold the FA Cup finals at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium for the 5th year running.
Which means the Championship play-off final will involve a trek down to Cardiff too. England's friendlies against Hungry and Jamaica will also be moved elsewhere, probably Old Trafford.
The first game at the new Wembley stadium will, therefore, probably be the Community Shield match on August 13th.
There may be some joy for fans from Leeds though - if the Leeds Rhinos make it to the Rugby League Challenge Cup Final again this will be held just two weeks after the Community Shield game, on August 26th at the new Wembley Stadium!
