This weekend, a Toon-mad friend is putting himself through the hell of the Great North Run in aid of Kidney Research, but he is well short of his fund-raising target. So I thought I'd give him a hand by appealing to his fellow Newcastle United fans for a little help (and don't you Leeds United fans leave yet!).
I know Geordies are generous in spirit so I thought, as it is Friday and most of you'll be hitting the Toon this evening for a session, that I would ask this of you all - please give him the price of one drink and three minutes of your time.

Basically you're helping the work of Kidney Research but an old schoolfriend of mine, a Leeds United fan has been on dialysis for fifteen years and waiting for a transplant for over six years and there is nothing practical I can do to help him other than appeal to the generosity of Newcastle, Leeds and all football fans today. I'm not fit enough to run over 13 miles but Steve is and he's going to suffer so others can live - and all you have to do is give him a pint and three minutes!
