A first half goal from Jermaine Beckford and a second half strike from, who else, Tresor Kandol gave Leeds United the lead against Bristol Rovers away at the Memorial Ground. And in stoppage time Jermaine Beckford put the icing on the cake when he scored a wonderful 18 yard overhead goal to make it six wins out of six for the Whites and to maintain the only 100% record in the entire Football League.
Leeds were without captain Alan Thompson who reportedly suffered a set-back on his recovery from his groin strain but Jonathan Douglas came back into the team after being on international duty during the week.
The hard fought victory was played in front of 1200 Leeds United supporters in the midst of a record football attendance for the Memorial Ground of 11883.
The win now takes Leeds United off the bottom of League One and above several teams (Walsall, Gillingham, Oldham and the pre-season favourites Nottingham Forest!)
Can you hear that? If you listen carefully you can actually hear "Lord" Mal-whinney banging his head on his desk and sobbing, "No, no, no, no.."
Let us withdraw quietly and leave the sad git to it and instead shout "Bring on Swansea City!"
Marching on together!
Here are the starting teams:
Bristol Rovers: Phillips, Green (Jacobson 79), Anthony, Elliot, Carruthers, Igoe (Pipe 76), Campbell, Disley, Haldane, Lambert, Williams (Walker 69)
Leeds United: Ankergren, Richardson (Huntingdon 90), Heath, Marques, Hughes, Prutton, Douglas, Clapham, Carole (Westlake 78), Beckford, Kandol
Booked: Campbell (Rovers) Douglas, Carole (Leeds)
