Leeds United's excellent start to life in League One has been recognised by the Football League. Leeds United are one of only two clubs in the entire Football League with a 100% record and the Leeds manager Dennis Wise has been given the "Manager of the Month" award for August 2007.
However, Leeds are still bottom of the table with no points and Dennis Wise is distinctly underwhelmed by the trinket.
Wise commented:
"It's very nice" [Whoa! Calm down Dennis - Ed.]
"The Football League? After what they've done to us this is like a little tap on the back saying we do apologise, here's manager of the month.
"It's laughable, isn't it, when we're bottom of the league?
"I'd rather have my 15 points back than manager of the month.
"Nothing from the Football League this year will be going near my mantelpiece after what they've done to us.
"I just can't accept what they've done to us this year, but I don't want to harp on about it."
After Gus Poyet's outburst over Andy D'Urso the above is to be regarded as a highly restrained commentary on a perceived injustice. He could have just said, "Stick it up your arse, Mawhinney", and he would have been correct to do so in the eyes of the club and its fans.
