Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp will rest Kanu, Sol Campbell and David James for the Carling Cup 2nd round match against unbeaten League One visitors Leeds United.
Also missing will be Linvoy Primus (knee), Pedro Mendes (groin) and Nico Kranjcar (foot).
Leeds United will face familiar Championship opposition in former Preston North End striker David Nugent who will be subbing for Kanu. However, many of the others will be relatively unfamiliar even to Pompey fans including goalkeeper Jamie Ashdown, England under-21 defender Martin Cranie, Richard Hughes and Arnold Mvuemba.
Leeds United have long term injuries to Shaun Derry and striker Leon Constantine and Tore Andre Flo is not fully match fit.
Andy Hughes (groin) and Ian Westlake (ankle) are doubtful.
In the Carling Cup 2nd round last season
Portsmouth beat Mansfield Town 2-1 away and Leeds United overcame Barnet at home 3-1; however, neither Leeds or Portsmouth made it past the third round.
