Jul-22-2008 By Chris Hudson

The day after being linked with a clapped-out, Hull City ex-brickie comes better news for Leeds United fans.

It has been revealed that 24-year old former Boca Juniors and Barcelona striker Luciano Becchio has been training with the Leeds squad during their pre-seaon Irish tour.

The Cordoba-born Argentinian will start in the Leeds side in pre-season friendly against top-Irish side Shelbourne FC.

United having been awaiting international clearance for him to play which has now arrived.

After leaving Barcelona, Becchio, played for Merida Union Deportivo in the Segunda División B-Grupo IV (the third tier of Spanish football) during the 2007-08 season and he netted an impressive 28 goals in just 50 appearances with the club. Merida finished in fourth place.

Tomi Ameobi off to Doncaster Rovers

Jul-22-2008 By Chris Hudson

As we suggested would happen yesterday, the sale of teenage striker Tomi Ameobi to Doncaster Rovers has taken place today.

Tomi has spent the last week training with Championship side Doncaster Rovers and his efforts have been rewarded by their manager Sean O’Driscoll with a contract.

Doncaster have agreed what is described as “an appearance related transfer fee” with Leeds, for whom Tomi made just two first-team appearances, both Cup matches.

Gary McAllister said,

“Opportunities would have been limited for Tomi this season.

“I am looking to strengthen in terms of strikers and we have some young players coming through in that area as well.

“We wish Tomi all the best for the future.”

With Macca still looking to sign another two strikers and Elding refusing to budge it seems young Ameobi has been let go in order to reduce the wage bill.

Ameobi heading for Doncaster Rovers?

Jul-21-2008 By Chris Hudson

Tomi Ameobi has been invited to newly-promoted Championship side Doncaster Rovers for trial.

Tomi recently signed a new Leeds United contract.

Ameobi spent ten games on loan at Scunthorpe United in the Championship last season between November 2007 and January 2008. He made 9 league sub appearances and 1 FA Cup sub appearance.

It is not clear yet whether Doncaster Rovers are looking for loan or a permanent move.

However with Leeds being linked with new strikers everyday Ameobi knows he is not in the frame for the starting line up during the forthcoming season at Elland Road.

Rob Hulse a Ram

Jul-21-2008 By Chris Hudson

Former Leeds United striker Rob Hulse has completed his move from Championship side Sheffield United to recently relegated Derby County.

Twenty-nine year old Hulse signed a three-year contract today.

The fee is £1.75 million representing a loss on the £2.2 million that the Blades paid Leeds United two years ago in July 2006.

Derby manager Paul Jewell believes the 29-year-old will be valuable addition to the squad.

“This is a terrific capture for us and I am really excited to have added a player of Rob Hulse’s calibre to our squad,” Jewell said on Derby’s official website.

“Rob is a player I’ve admired for a very long time and tried to sign on more than one occasion in the past.

“He has tremendous attributes as a forward; strong, brave, athletic and an eye for goal.

“His attitude is also first-class and he is hungry to return to the highest level and to do it with Derby County.

“It barely took any persuading to get Rob to join Derby County. He knows this is a huge club with great ambition and his ambition and desire matches ours.”

In a disasterous Premier League campaign last season (2007-08), Derby County netted just 20 times and ended up with a humiliating -69 goal difference.

Hulse score 8 goals in 41 league and FA Cup outings for Sheffield United.
