Leeds United on the web since 1999

Arise Sir David Healy

Jun-14-2008 By Chris Hudson

Well, it wasn’t quite a knighthood but there has been a lot of surprise expressed at the award of an MBE to 28 year-old former Leeds United striker David Healy, now with Fulham in the Premier League.

Healy received the gong in the Queen’s birthday honours list for services to football in his native Northern Ireland where he is a cult hero following some astonishing goal scoring feats which, sadly, he was unable to repeat at club level for either Leeds United or Fulham. In the green shirt of his country he has netted 25 goals in just 53 matches - compare that to 31 goals in 121 matches in all competitions for Leeds United.

Healey’s move to Fulham has not been a success and he was rumoured to be returning to Elland Road last week, however, that story was firmly denied by Healey’s agent.
